Business Week released their list of the World’s Best Companies, and South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries made the top five at fourth and fifth place, respectively.

“A commitment to innovation, diversified portfolios, aggressive expansion, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the future—these are just some of the strategies employed by the best companies to get to the top of the World’s Best Companies/Global Top 40 list compiled for BusinessWeek by management consulting firm A.T. Kearney.”

Awesome. Fighting! These are great companies, just hope those working for Hyundai/Samsung etc are doing well, and not exploited. I’ve heard working for those big companies is pretty brutal.

So “A commitment to innovation, diversified portfolios, aggressive expansion, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the future” makes a company a world’s best company? All that tells me is that it is a successful company or a profit machine.

GE is able to make billions without spending a penny on taxes. Does that make it a “best” company?

The classification of “best” needs to be better articulated and more specific in category.

Personally, I would consider Google or Turner to be one of the best companies to work for. Not only do they bank, but the employees actually enjoy working there.

What about companies that significantly give back to the community?

I saw a lot of protests outside Chung-Ang University that might throw a wet blanket on the category of best.
