Quarantine Teacher Walks Out of BioWar Facility

Out of the 70 or so English teachers who were quarantined by public health officials last week, Brian, one of the original three bloggers inside the quarantine, told Ratemyhagwon he was diagnosed with the H1N1 swine influenza on Tuesday (May 26). As anticipated, he kind of dropped off the radar. Well, he has just been released Saturday, free and clear of the flu and its symptoms. His most recent posts give us a rare glimpse into how the other half lived.

On Tuesday, Brian and we presume the others were transported out of the dormitory-styled quarantine facility at the Seoul Human Resource Development Center and sent to an undisclosed military camp, evidently designated for fighting biological warfare, about ’30 minutes South of Bundang.’ As a matter of fact, there happens to be a rather large base with its own airstrip in Bundang. Anyone know the name?
Brian, ironically, a former Army nuclear, biologic, and chemical (NBC) officer writes:
“We entered the grounds via a very high security checkpoint with armed guards, anti-terror barriers and all sorts of interesting security devices.
I was taken, along with my things into a rear entrance of the hospital in a secure elevator up to the top floor. Upon exiting the elevator, I was confronted with an airlock-type entry. Two large sliding glass doors opened by a numeric code opened into a small room. The doors sealed shut behind me and then another code is entered and the next set of glass doors opened, revealing a long, white hallway. I couldn’t see a nurses’ station, only a line of rooms with white, power-assisted sliding doors with a narrow window.”
Some fascinating observations he made: airlocks, striped hospital clothes, seven vials of blood drawn, just ‘ok food’, Bio-level 4 clad military nurses, and enough round the clock barbed-wire security to discourage even bacteria from coming or going.
