Na Hong-jin’s The Chaser (추격자 Chugyukja) is now recognized as part of an elite club of hit Korean thrillers such as Old Boy  and Memories of Murder (살인의 추억 Sarinui Chueok).

That’s what the judges at the 7th Korean Film Awards (”Korea’s Oscars”) seemed to think on Thursday, when they awarded the movie, released February this year, with a sweeping seven awards including best picture, best actor, best screenplay, and best director / best new director.

This is the film director Na Hong-jin’s directorial debut.  Yikes!  That’s a fast start!

Leo DiCaprio is also in the works for a remake.  Russell Crowe would probably be a better fit for the role but then again, he already did Proof of Life.

If you haven’t seen it, this might be a great DVD for the weekend.
