Autumn | Express The Haiku In You

The fall season, or danpoong in Korean, is a treat for me not just because of the cooler air and changing leaves. It’s not just a time for me to don my North Face and get fresh, crisp air hiking the numerous trails on mountains around Korea. Although all of that is perfect enough.
Fall evokes a different mindset for me. It’s a time for me to reflect and gather the memories of the warmer, more active part of my year. A time filled with images of splashing in water amid sparkling sunshine, and further back, periods busily going from one place to the next grasping at the fleeting days as though it would all end too soon. All of these memories, with perhaps the moment Chusok passes, are only then regaled as stories to tell over chicken and beer on a chilly October night.
There is something very collegiate about this season, if I can call it that. Maybe it’s because I’m from the northeastern U.S. or Dead Poets Society has made a lasting impression on me, fall envisions a time when we hit the books and call the days early for a warm mug of cocoa (preferably with Bailey’s). It’s a time when writing becomes easiest because it’s not unbearably hot. I can think of few other ways than through haiku to make reflection on the year more meaningful.
Here are my thoughts so far about this past year, and try out a few of your own in the comments! Have fun!^^

Autumn leaves afire
Lighting path to mountaintop
Up where buddha prays

Their bandwidth is high
Children seem smarter these days
I better go prep

Tapas margaritas
Friends frolicking at the beach
My home forever
